U.S. President Donald Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum imports will start in 15 days. Canada and Mexico have been exempt from the tariff, while the possibility of alternatives for other countries, still stands. The South African Government says it's noted President Trump's announcement. The Department of Trade and Industry says it is studying the proclamations and its implications for the country's domestic industry. The department says it's fully engaged with the matter and continues to have discussions with the US on this issue and a formal submission will also be made to the US as is provided for in the proclamations. John Stremlau, Professor of International Relations at Witwatersrand University.
